报告摘要:

Operating Systems have served as the crucial link between computer hardware and applications. However, with the rapid evolution of both hardware and applications, existing OSes face significant performance bottlenecks. In this talk, I will discuss our efforts to address these challenges and improve scalability and performance in modern OSes. Our approach employs a cross-layered system design that disaggregates software components into appropriate layers (i.e., user space, OS kernel, and device firmware) to mitigate performance bottlenecks. Specifically, we delve into our design principles and techniques within the storage and memory subsystems, aiming to optimize performance in these critical areas.

Dr. Yujie Ren is a Postdoctoral Researcher at RS3Lab in Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), where he serves as a lab leader with Professor Sanidhya Kashyap. His research focuses on advancing scalability and performance in both traditional OSes and next-generation OS for LLM Agents. His contributions have garnered recognition in top-tier system conferences such as OSDI, FAST, ASPLOS and ATC, He has collaborated extensively with industry leaders, such as Samsung and NVIDIA, contributing to projects resulting in Us patents
